Review
“God Calling” is a wonderful daily devotional that’s chock-full of wisdom. It continues to be part of my daily routine even after absorbing its contents in full over the course of a year.
Some will argue about its authenticity (the contents are supposedly based on words given to two early 20th Century women by Jesus Christ himself), while others will nag about the occasional contradiction within its teachings. Of course we all know that the same accusations are thrown repeatedly at the Bible, whose contents (historically accurate or no) are widely respected in the Wisdom Category. I actually got into a little online argument over at Amazon with a fellow named Stephen Keeney who was ranting about the “dangers” of reading this book. If you’re interested in a little Dogma vs. Spirituality cagefight, give it a read HERE.
While there’s plenty of encouragement within it pages, there’s also a fair amount of discipline, and even some mystical stuff that isn’t as easily categorized. I certainly can’t pretend to understand or even comprehend everything that’s presented here, but I do manage to find that each day’s entry offers at least SOMETHING that’s incredibly applicable to where I am in that moment.
That said, I believe we ALL should exercise discernment as we fill our skulls with ever increasing amounts of data, but likewise, we must listen to our hearts when something true strikes to the core. “God Calling” manages to do so over and over again, and regardless of its origins or one’s belief system, it’s worth a few minutes of your daily routine. I can’t recommend it enough!
